Default .avi vids

I just downloaded an avi video file. Normally this type of video works for me without a problem. When I try to start this one however, I only get the audio. I have xvid installed. I tried windows media player, quicktime player, realplayer, divXplayer and I even downloaded BSplayer for this. They all give the same error (unknown codec: xvid) Even though I have Xvid installed. What the hell am I supposed to do?

thanks in advance.

I usually avoid codec packs at all costs. Having too many codecs can lead to some bad problems.

I use Video Inspector http://www.kcsoftwares.com/?vtb

It tells me which codec the video is using and unlike G-Spot (another codec detector) it has a button that will send you to a download link of said codec to install.

VLC player ftw!! VLC player plays pretty much all without the need to additional codec packs. Small file, and very easy to use.

Hope you own the Bourne Ultimatun DVD
